How much does a custom storage build cost?

Pricing depends on size, materials, and complexity. Here are typical price ranges:

  • 27-gallon tote shelving: $349 (8-tote) to $1,259 (32-tote) — fixed tier pricing, no quote needed
  • Custom workbenches: typically $400–$1,200 depending on size and features
  • Full garage storage systems: $800 to $5,000+ depending on scope
  • Build plan PDFs (DIY): $25–$50 per plan

For an exact price on your project, use the quote builder — you'll get a detailed quote within 24 hours.

How long does a build take?

Most builds are completed within 2 weeks of deposit. Larger or fully custom projects may take 3–4 weeks during busy seasons.

Your quote includes a target delivery date so there are no surprises. You can also track progress in your customer portal — I post photos as the build moves through cutting, assembly, and finishing.

What's the deposit and payment structure?

30% deposit on quote approval to lock in your build slot and cover materials. Balance due on delivery.

Deposits are paid online via secure Stripe payment links. The balance can be paid by:

  • Credit/debit card (tap-to-pay on my phone at delivery)
  • Cash
  • Personal check
  • Bank transfer (ACH) for orders over $1,000
Do you offer delivery? How much does it cost?

Yes — local delivery is part of every order. We use distance-based pricing measured from our shop in Chippewa Falls:

  • 0–25 miles: free
  • 25–50 miles: $2.00 per mile (above 25)
  • 50–75 miles: $2.75 per mile (above 50)
  • 75–100 miles: $3.50 per mile (above 75)
  • Beyond 100 miles: outside our standard service area — we'll review and follow up with a custom quote

The quote builder calculates this automatically when you enter your address. I also help set the build up in your space — not just drop and run.

What if I have an unusual space or odd dimensions?

That's exactly what custom builds are for. Send a few photos of the space and rough dimensions through the quote builder. I'll come back with options that fit.

Common "odd space" requests:

  • Under-stair storage
  • Sloped or angled walls
  • Tall narrow gaps between appliances
  • Wrap-around corner units
  • Mudroom built-ins
  • Pantry shelving with awkward depth
What totes do your shelving systems work with?

The standard tier-priced shelving is built for 27-gallon "Tough Tote" sized totes: roughly 30.5" L × 20" W × 14.6" H. This includes:

  • HDX 27-gal Tough Tote (Home Depot)
  • Sterilite 27-gal Industrial Storage Tote
  • Project Source 27-gal (Lowe's)
  • Husky 27-gal (Home Depot)

Different tote brand or size? Custom shelving is built to your exact tote dimensions — just send the brand or measurements with your quote.

What materials do you use?

Heavy-duty construction-grade lumber as the standard — typically 2x4 framing with 3/4" plywood shelves for tote racks, hardwood-grade plywood for workbench surfaces.

Upgrade options available:

  • 1/2" plywood shelves (heavier loads)
  • Stain + polyurethane finish (water/scratch resistant)
  • Pegboard back panels
  • LED under-shelf lighting
  • Locking casters for mobility

Hardware is always heavy-duty: real fasteners, brackets, and load-rated connectors. Nothing cheap that fails.

Do you offer a warranty?

Yes. Lifetime warranty against build defects — if something I built fails (joint failure, hardware breakage, wood splitting from poor material) I fix or replace it free.

The warranty doesn't cover normal wear, damage from overloading beyond the rated capacity, or modifications made after delivery. But for actual build issues, I stand behind my work.

Where do you deliver?

We deliver throughout the Chippewa Valley and most of western Wisconsin / eastern Minnesota — anywhere within 100 miles of Chippewa Falls qualifies for our standard service area.

Free delivery zone (0–25 mi): Chippewa Falls, Eau Claire, Altoona, Lake Hallie, Jim Falls, Cadott, Boyd, Cornell, Stanley, Bloomer.

Standard zone (25–50 mi): Menomonie, Mondovi, Whitehall, Augusta, Osseo, Rice Lake.

Extended zone (50–75 mi): Hudson, New Richmond, River Falls, Black River Falls, Cumberland.

Long-haul zone (75–100 mi): La Crosse, Wausau, Twin Cities metro suburbs, Stevens Point, Hayward.

Outside that radius? Email us — we'll quote it custom.

Do you do pickup instead of delivery?

Yes. Pickup at my Chippewa Falls shop is always free. Just select "pickup" on the quote builder and I'll send the address and pickup time when your build is ready.

Can I see the build before final delivery?

Absolutely. Customers with an account in the customer portal see progress photos as I post them — typically: cutting/cut list complete, framing done, finishing complete, ready for delivery.

If you want to swing by the shop to see it in person, that's also fine — just message me to coordinate a time.

What if I need to cancel after paying a deposit?

If cancellation happens before any cutting starts, the deposit is fully refundable minus a $25 processing fee.

If lumber has been cut to your specs, the deposit is non-refundable since the materials can't be reused — but I'll work with you to apply the deposit toward a different build or design change.

This is rare. Most issues can be resolved by adjusting the design rather than cancelling outright.

Do you sell DIY plans?

Yes — digital PDF build plans are available here for $25–$50 each. Each plan includes:

  • Cut list with exact dimensions
  • Materials list with home-improvement-store SKUs
  • Hardware list
  • Step-by-step assembly instructions
  • Photos at each major step
  • Tool list (basic woodworking tools only)

Instant download after purchase. Refunds if the plan has errors or if you can't open the file.
